Choosing the Correct Size for Your Pet
NOZTONOZ(R) Sof-Krate Pet Homes are available in five sizes to accommodate almost any size pet. First measure your pet from the top of his head to the floor; the Sof-Krate only needs to be one to two inches taller than this measurement. Second measure your pet from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail; the Sof-Krate only needs to be four to six inches longer than this measurement. This will allow your pet enough room to stand up turn around and lay down comfortably in his Sof-Krate. You can of course provide a larger space for your pet but remember that dogs are den animals and feel most comfortable and secure in an enclosed area. Use the handy chart located below to choose the perfect Sof-Krate for your pet needs.

Pros:
- Very easy to assemble. It pops up and folds down very easily, has buckles to prevent it from popping open unexpectedly, and it fits in my tiny car when collapsed.
- Lightweight and transportable. If you have trouble lifting things, this might be a good option. It even has a carry handle so you can carry it easily when it's collapsed.
- Loops for stakes. Just in case it's windy, you don't have to worry about your crate blowing away. You can get stakes pretty cheap at a sports store in the tent section
- Multiple doors. The top opens and two sides open, so you have many ways you can get your dog out, and you can open the top to be a sunroof
- Zippers have a tether. I've heard of some dogs learning how to operate the zipper and letting themselves out. I was worried about this, but it turns out there is a tether attached to the outside of the crate that you hook onto the zipper when you close the door. It only lets the zipper go down maybe far enough for a dog to stick it's nose out.
Cons:
- Not for untrained dogs!!! Even though my dog has never been in a crate before, he is almost 2, very well trained, and doesn't have a history of destroying things. And I'm still taking the steps needed to make the crate something positive for him by giving him his favorite chewy only when he's in the crate, throwing treats in, and praising him when he goes in. It's up for him to sleep in at night if he wants, and he does so completely voluntarily. If you have a destructive dog and are looking for a way to contain it, this is NOT the crate for you. It is soft, fabric and mesh and a dog will not have a problem busting out if it wants to, don't underestimate this. The dog has to really respect the crate and be comfortable and happy in it for the crate to contain the dog.
- Not for puppies! Again, this crate is not chew proof or puppy proof by any means. Puppies are still learning, and it's probably best to start off with a wire or plastic crate, and graduate to this once good behaviors are proofed. If you use this crate with a puppy, you are taking a gamble and risking a $100 crate being ruined.
- There is a funny smell. It doesn't really bother me, but it might bother others. I'm hoping it'll dissipate as it's kept out.
The top unzips to provide easy, top-down access should you need it and all sides are well ventilated. We drape a very light blanket over the crates at night to give the pups a nice dark, quiet environment to sleep.
I have read the other reviews and want to speak to two different complaints/points that have been brought up. This is purely from my experience and not a review/reflection of other reviewers and the issues they have experienced:
1.) Smell - I have not noticed any offensive or chemical smells whatsoever. We have an 8 week old pup that has had a few accidents on pee pads, but cleanup was a snap, with no lingering odors.
2.) Durability - I have found the crates to be very durable, without defect. I will say that we do NOT allow our dogs to chew on their crates, claw at the door or mesh windows. If you have a pup/dog that chews and wants to claw his/her way out of their crate, this is not the crate for you. No cloth crate is for you. You want a metal crate. At least until they can be trained not to destroy their crate. This crate is not made of Kevlar and will not stop a determined pup from chewing/clawing his way out.
Overall we are incredibly happy with our crates. They are VERY light weight and we can easily move them outside once a month to air out and let the sun cleanse them. If we decide to add a fifth pup to our pack, I would absolutely purchase this crate again.
My Miniature Schnauzer is 7 months and still in the training phase. She scratched her way thru another mesh type cage fairly easily. With this one the mesh honestly doesn’t even look as if she’s scratched it at all but she has, several times. The set up took me no longer than 1 min from start to finish, which includes reading the instructions, it was that easy.
Having said all of that I have to be transparent in saying I wouldnt buy this cage in any size for her more frequently used Kennel (I.e. the one she sleeps, naps, & stays in when we leave). But that’s got nothing to do w this cage or the quality, this is just my personal pref and what’s best for our particular needs. I’ll explain why we purchased this cage so you can see if it would suit your needs as well.
We use this cage, in a smaller size, as a training crate for when she needs a timeout. We also have a bigger, more solid Kennel for her to sleep in, etc. For a while we also used that as her timeout spot. We quickly decided that we didn’t want it to become a place she equates with being in trouble. We wanted that to be her comfy, safe place. We decided to get a smaller cage that would only give her room enough to turn around n lay down or stand up, no creature comforts at all, so that’s what we did. I searched around, read a few dog blogs and ultimately chose this cage as it seemed to fit all of our needs. It arrived shortly after and, as I said earlier, I put it together within a mins time, then put it where it was to go until we needed it. I wasn’t sure how well this change would be received and was shocked at how quickly I’d find out. Within the first 2-3 days I found out just how big of an impact this lil cage had made on our newest lil bundle. However, I didn’t find out on my own. Nope, Sugar is the one who opened my eyes. Here I was concerned we’d have a hard time getting her used to the new cage but she showed me that she was already well on her way to becoming intimately acquainted with her new system lol.
**day 3 of the “bad cage” system**
After 15 mins upstairs putting clothes away I come down, call for my puppy and don’t get the normal running response. I call her again, nothing. Concerned, I decided to go look for her. Within a couple seconds I’m in my kitchen/breakfast area but see nothing. Moving on I swiftly Round the corner of the kitchen into the mini hall. As I’m walking with my determined gait past the CLOSED barn door, I’m reminded of why I insist on it always being closed. It’s always closed because it’s always covering the disaster that is my Laundrnado room. Shuddering with horror at what awaits me behind that gorgeous door I move on. As I enter my workout/Puppy Kennel room only to be stunned still and silent for a moment. I’m sure if I could have seen my expression I’d have found my mouth hanging open and my eyebrows in the middle of my forehead lol. To my utter confusion Sugar is in her cage and I didn’t put her there. But that’s not the truly surprising thing. The cage she was in was not just any cage, she was in her “bad cage”. After gathering my wits I shook my head n laughed a lil n said “silly girl what are u doing in there” thinking she might have been....sleepy🤔. When I said that all she did was lay her ears down and bend her head down. It was then that it dawned on me, I thought “That lil stinker. she might have actually done something she knows is wrong and put herself in timeout before I could lol.” I go in search of any suspicious evidence and sure enough, in the corner of my family room carpet, hidden as far away from me as she could, is her lil upset. I stood there kinda shocked over what just went down but quickly got it together. I went right back in there and scolded her, I had to since I refuse to live w an animal who constantly potty’s in my home, zipped her in and went out astonished at how smart this puppy is. I mean we hadn’t had the new cage 3 full days yet, she’d only been in it for behavior correction no more than 3-4 times. Plus, taking into consideration that we used her other cage for months as her timeout place, and the fact that they sit right next to one another, I was extremely impressed with how quickly she can adapt and how intelligent this breed is.
So I def rec. this cage for many, many uses. Again, I don’t know that I would use it in replacement, or in lue of the bigger more solid Kennel, but this cage is perfect for my needs. Its high quality materials and easy assembly make it an easy recommendation.

Cover comes off completely, so you can wipe it clean.
Great access to 3 sides.
This is a wonderful crate. It's much more aesthetically pleasing than a big wire crate with a blanket over it. Set-up was easy, it snapped into place in seconds and it can be folded down for transport in a flash. It even has a handle on it so it carries like a large briefcase, but it weighs next to nothing! This is the perfect size for a standard dachshund- even the height does not seem *ridiculously* tall for them, and I can reach in and out to fix their bedding easily enough.
There have been a few comments of poor materials, but I find both of the crates I ordered to be well made. The aluminum(?) frame is light but sturdy, the fabric and mesh looks to be of good quality. No problems with zippers, everything works very well. There is even a clasp to secure the zipper pulls at the top once the door is zipped closed so that it cannot be pawed or pushed open. I can see if you have puppy or a destructive dog that this crate would not be a good idea. But that's not the crates fault, it is not meant to be chew proof. Owners just need to use their discretion. ….my update 7 years later shows it’s durable!
Things I love about this crate:
Colour, design
Materials - you don't need a bumper bed (to block limbs from falling out between wire bars) as they can lay up against the fabic and not be uncomfortable, unlike in wire crates.
Light weight, very easy to set up and fold down
Looks good, dogs like it :)
Only 1 con - Upon first opening and setting up this crate there is a bit of a plastic/chemical smell. I let it air out for a few days and now it is barely noticeable, unless you go right up and sniff the material. I am sure this will continue to dissipate more (it did) and more over time. I'm not concerned about it.
